Naxxramas: Spider Wing
By admin | February 21, 2009
Every seasoned raider knows Naxxramas, old and new. If you were not pre-BC then let me explain the history of Naxxramas. It was a raid located in the Eastern Plaguelands. Just like Dalaran, It has been moved to Northrend. Now the instance is floating above eastern Dragonblight and is now a 10 or 25 man raid. In pre-BC this raid was a whopping 40 man. Difficult to say the least to control 40 people in one raid.
Even though the numbers may have been reduced the challenge is still there. After you venture through your Heroics to get gear, Naxx will be the next step into your raiding world. The following guide will help ease the pain of making it through this raid. Let alone save some money on repair cost ^.^.
Group Chemistry:
First things first the prerequisites of making a group for Naxx. Unlike Karazhan where you may be able to get away with less healers, you should have around 3 decent healers (which specs I will describe later). Just for the sakes that a lot of things will be hitting you and its easier to deal with it. Next you will need 2 tanks and the rest obviously dps. The key to a successful and happy group is diversity. Try not to have multiple classes. Its better for different raid skills and when the lewt drops there will be no complaining or fighting over gear.
25 Man Notes:
The only notes that are different for the 25 man raids is that you have 25 people instead of 10. Most bosses will have adds with them and you will notice a significant amount of heath boost which is quite obvious. Other then that mastering the 10 man will ensure you and your group will strategically be ready for 25 mans.
Single Player Requirements:
For healers your requirements vary with how many healers you have, but I would suggest around 1200 spellpower and 250mp5 (3 healers). To be safe 1700 would be a better bet. As for tanks 20k unbuffed HP, 20K armor, defense 540 (crit immunity), and around 40-45% avoidance, finally for dps, melee 9% hit, and puts out 1.5K (2K+ recommended), caster 17% 1.5K (2K+ recommended),.
Since we have the min. requirements down lets get started with the raid itself. Spider Wing is by far the easiest wing to complete. For the trash in Spider Wing you will want to just AOE it down. That is the easiest and quickest method I know of. If you prefer more of a skull, x, triangle, structured form of raiding be my guest. The trash mobs are not suppose to be the hard part of the raid. If you wipe because of the trash you may want to reconsider your group or get more gear.
Anub’Rehkan:
The first boss you will encounter in the Spider Wing will be Anub’Rehkan. My opinion the easiest boss in the instance. As long as your tank dances with Anub’Rehkan you will be fine. Along the fight adds will appear which becomes priority over the boss. Corpse Scarabs also appear and are easily dealt with AOE’d. The off tanks assignment is to pick up any big spawns during the fight. The MT will tank the boss in front of the room. Watch out for occasional raid damage.
This fight would be a tank n spank, buttttttt when the Locust Swarm ability is used no one tank including should be within 30 yards of the boss. The tank needs to kite the boss around the parameter to where you entered the room. Avoid the slime on the outside also. Once the boss is in position and the adds are killed burn down the boss and collect your badges and gear.
Faerlina:
So maybe that first boss wasn’t that challenging, maybe Faerlina will provide that rush you need. If you like timed challenges this would be for you. This boss has an enrage timer that is cancelled only by the death of one of the adds. There are multiple methods to this fight. One is to burn down an add to 10% and then switch to the boss and burn her down. Method two is for people sure confident about their dps where they AOE all the adds down and burn the boss fast and try to avoid the enrage timer. Or three if you have a shadow priest MC the adds. As long as you follow one of the methods you will be find and this will seem like a tank n spank fight.
Maexxna:
Two down and one left, for the Spider Wing that is. Maexxna is one tough spider. If only the newspaper was enough to defeat this foe like many before her. As most fights you want to send your tank blindly in. (Its funny just watching the tank run up and get smashed with no heals ^.^) But even with heals you will see that this isn’t and easy fight. All of the melee dps need to be clumped up around her legs. Do not stand infront of the boss at all! Death will proceed it. You must keep cleansing totems up ro abolish poison up on the main tank. If you do this you will reduce your healing by around 90%
Every Now and then someone will smack someone in the back of the room and wrap them in her webs. Let a healer keep them up while ranged dps release them. Communication will be the key to winning this fight. Make sure to call out eerything on vent and pinpoint locations on the map.
Spider adds will appear randomly out of the walls. Keeping your raid centered will help pick them up easier. This will be your OT’s job. and If your raid is centered you can AOE them easier. Making sure the melee classes catch the aggro will ensure a lot of rune strikes, generated rage, and aggro of course ^.^.
Here is the part where things get ugly. She will also stun the raid for a couple seconds which means the tank MUST have aggro and will be a sitting duck for Maexxna. Making sure the tank his shielded and always HoT’d will become vital during this fight. Or else your tank will be the one getting splattered.
Once she is 30% she enrages and does more damage. Other then that she will remain the same. Only thing to watch out for is the stun. This can realllly hurt when she’s enraged. Popping cd’s and making OT prepare to take over tanking if the tank dies will help you get through this fight.
Congratulations with any luck you will clear the Spider Wing with the previous information ^.^, but it only gets rougher as you progress into this dangerous instance. This concludes part one of the Naxx instance keep posted for the rest.

Additional Notes:
Anub’Rekhan also has an ability where he spits out spines at your raid. you want ot make sure to spread out, as multiple people hit with the spine will be bounced into the air, taking fall damage as they splat on the ground.
Go through the wierdly named door.
Faerlina – Have your raid damage the boss, with an OT taking the adds. Your OT will determine which add to kill first for the enrage, and should be assisted to ensure the CORRECT add dies at the enrage. Watch for poison from boss. There’s an achievement for this fight.
Maexxna- Make sure to AoE the adds down before the enweb.
